The Shandean has been a major outlet for interest in eighteenth-century author and clergyman Laurence Sterne (1713-1768) since 1989. This unique annual journal carries scholarly work from established and young scholars alike, eclectic pieces of ‘Sterneana’, and a rich array of items on the visual and material culture that has formed a significant part of Sterne’s reception since his work first appeared in the 1760s.
The Shandean has been a much-loved paper journal since its inception. With the retirement of its long-serving editor, Peter de Voogd, it will see a renaissance as an online, Open Access journal in 2024.
